People who look stylish know that putting the right colors together can make the difference between someone who has fashion sense and someone who just does not make the grade. On the catwalk we may see some unusual color combinations that seem quite daring, but only if a designer has not coordinated colors properly do we reject the outfit. This color sense comes an understanding of the color wheel. There are twelve hues in the color wheel: Red, Red-Violet, Violet, Blue-Violet, Blue, Blue-Green, Green, Yellow-Green, Yellow, Yellow-Orange, Orange, Red-Orange. Complementary colors are those that are placed opposite each other on the color wheel, such as red and green while contrasting colors are those three places along the wheel, for example red and blue. The real difficulty is that colors are not as simple as the basic color wheel. The hundreds of tints derived from these twelve hues make color coordination really challenging when you want to wear a blend of colors that add brightness to your appearance, without jarring the senses. Good advice is to start with the basics in the traditional darker shades and add smaller touches of color. If you are in a formal business environment, you will probably want to keep to darker colors with a pocket handkerchief, a scarf or a shirt as your splash of color even when you feel confident in your color coordination. It is easy to coordinate with suits and trousers that are black or grey. These colors, with white, are known as the achromatic hues. Very few colors clash with the achromatic hues, but some work better than others. Bright, clear colors such as blue, pink, orange are effective as they make a bold statement but are easy on the eye against the dark background. You can never go wrong with a combination of shades of black, grey and white. Trousers should never be white unless worn as casual wear or for a sporting event. You should not wear a brightly colored pair of trousers, unless it is a high fashion item. Try brazenly colored accessories with your casual wear. Wear beige and white trousers and try various colored belts, shirts or sweaters. Here you could select more intense colors. You can layer two different colors that complement each other or you could add a contrasting jacket to a neutral pair of pants. Do not use more than one contrasting color but you may try two or three complementing colors. Patterns are even more difficult to combine than colors are. You are well advised to use only one pattern with an outfit, be it floral, stripe or plaid. The colors of your clothing are also affected by the background against which they are worn. Colors are worn against your skin which may been very pale to very dark. If you have a very pale skin, you will probably find that paler colors suit you while the man with a dark skin will good in the more vibrant hues. One way to learn about color coordination is to note the way in which designers put together colors on the catwalk. Perhaps the best tip that one can give in respect of this matter is to become highly observant of your better-dressed colleagues and friends and try similar combinations from your wardrobe at home to see which work for you and which do not. The best thing about color coordination is that you and your friends will immediately recognize when you have it right. Related reading – Jogging Bottoms Or Boxer Shorts
