SPECIES INFORMATION

Genus: Coremiocnemis POCOCK 1892

The genus Coremiocnemis was first discovered by the French arachnologist, Eugene Simon, who described the genotype, Coremiocnemis cunicularia in 1892. This spider was found in Malaysia and shortly thereafter, also in Malaysia, the English arachnologist Reginald I. Pocock discovered and described the second member of the genus, C.valida, in 1895. It was not until 2005 that the next member of the genus was described, this was C.tropix , discovered living in the Wet Tropics region of Qld, in Australia. This genus differs from other Selenocosmiinae in the combination of paddleform setae in the lower lyrate area on the maxillae (also the shape of the lyrate patch itself), along with pegs or spines found in between the inner cheliceral surfaces.
